‘Cut Food’ by Beth Galton and Charlotte Omnes /
Photographer Beth Galton and food stylist Charlotte Omnes have created a fantastic ‘Cut Food’ exhibition – a set of mesmerizing photographs of everyday foods and drinks sliced neatly in half. Some of the food items are relatively straight forward to cut cleanly in half, while others, like the ‘iced’ soda have to be set in gelatin first in order to solidify the liquid.
We are having fish
Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard makes art out of fish. The Paris-born artist uses market-fresh fish to create her wacky scenes. After she is done photographing, she cooks and eats them.
“It is the perfect recycling of art. Nothing is left over – and I can live from it”
We are hungry
Photographers Pierre Javelle and Akiko Ida have created a series of humorous dioramas that depict miniature people going about their daily lives in an edible world. Titled MINIMIAM, a play on words that marries miniature and “yummy” (miam in French), the project has been ongoing since 2002 and was inspired by the married couple’s profession as commercial food photographers. “We’re both food photographer in our daily work, and we’re both quite crazy about cooking, eating and everything about food,” says Ida. “So when we started this small people series, naturally we created the stories related to the food.” (found on & text by thisiscolossal)

The Arcimboldo Series / by artist & photographer Klaus Enrique.
Words from the author: I had been working on a photography series in which I surround an isolated human body part with a large quantity of a certain object, when I was struck by the idea for this project. While I was photographing a human eye that was peeking out amongst hundreds of leaves, it occurred to me that I could actually utilize leaves to construct portraits or masks. I researched what other artists had created along these lines and discovered that, as usual, someone somewhere had already done something similar. In this case it was the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who made paintings with this concept in mind over 400 years ago.

‘Gourmet Mouse Traps’ by Davide Luciano and Claudia Ficca /
“the creative couple of fine-art photographer davide luciano and food stylist claudia ficca have teamed up again to create ‘gourmet mouse traps’, a photography series showcasing various cheesy dishes, fit for the pickiest mouse, baited on the edge of traps. after a week-long cheese advertising shoot in new york, luciano, encouraged by his self-described ‘cheesy state of mind’ embraced the challenge of creating and photographing miniature, delectable food plates. creamy cheesecake, grilled cheese, layered lasagna, bagel & lox, and nachos are just a few of the gourmet, intricately crafted spreads that ficca cooked up. the ten, tiny dairy-based dishes are positioned on the catching device, set against changing environments and atmospheres. prop stylist maeve sheridan decorated each scene with diverse background wallpaper and lighting to give an impression that the traps were applied in different homes at different times throughout the day.” via ‘designboom’ – all images © and courtesy Davide Luciano and Claudia Ficca

We are Masterchefs
Food Art by Malaysian artist/architect Hong Yi. ‘For almost every day last month Hong YI created a fun illustration made with common (and occasionally not so common) food. Her parameters were simple: the image had to be comprised entirely of food and the only backdrop could be a white plate. With that in mind Yi set out to create landscapes, animals, homages to pop culture, and even a multi-frame telling of the three little pigs. The project, which still appears to be ongoing, has been documented heavily around the web, but if you haven’t seen it all head over to her Facebook’ (via colossal)

Broccoli House by Brock Davis
Today we display an interesting idea that could inspire you to use available resources to create fantastic presents or impress someone close to you with the creativity expressed by this kind of projects. Although there is only one picture, the idea is so interesting that we should try to capture its sentimental value rather than the materialistic feature. The Broccoli House was created by Brock Davis with a simple desire in mind: “I couldn’t build a tree house for my son so I built him a broccoli house instead“. This simple idea was transformed into a fantastic declaration of parental love and I hope that the artist will be soon able to make a full scale tree house for his son. The broccoli was used to replace a real tree and Brock Davis used a craft knife to meticulously carve the tree house out of balsa wood. The result is an adorable little Broccoli House that simply puts a smile on my face.
